The main idea in my work is the human relationship with the natural world, and our ambivalence towards it. Storytelling is an important part of my work. l make images of the sea or clouds that have an animistic quality. The sea is an alien element to us, and we both fear and are attracted to it. As a printmaker l am influenced in particular in particular the works of Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious and their love of landscape, combined with a kind of restrained surrealism and subtle humour.
