Anne Desmet is the Printmaker of the Year 2026 ~
Anne Desmet specializes in wood engraving, linocut, lithography, digital prints and mixed-media printed collage. Her engravings are printed on her cast-iron Albion printing press, made in 1859 and still in perfect working order. Her subject matter is largely architectural yet buildings are subject to metamorphoses relating to effects of changing light, weather and time passing as well as fantastical kaleidoscopic distortions and reconfigurations. Desmet aims to present our urban environment in unexpected and surprising ways and to suggest the timeless solidity, human aspiration, humour, hubris and folly that architectural forms can convey, as well as their impermanence and vulnerability.
