Printfest is often asked where there are printmaking courses in Cumbria and the North. There are many wonderful Print Studios that offer them. We publish what we can find and those that contact us to be part of this listing.

Cumbria

~ Cumbria Printmakers ~ We are individuals scattered all over Cumbria, from Carlisle down to Grange and from St Bee’s to the Eden valley. We do however, manage to meet, organise workshops and exhibit to promote printmaking and inspire beginners and new audiences. Every one of us is committed to printmaking, whether it’s from the cowshed on a farm, table at the back of the stables, the back bedroom, or from dedicated studio space. The disciplines are diverse; etching, cyanotype, mono printing, linocutting, drypoint, screen printing, blind embossing. We each find our way to express our creativity.  www.cumbriaprintmakers.co.uk

~ Linden Print Studio ~ Carlisle ~ Linden Print Studio is a friendly, creative space for people interested in learning about printmaking, from beginners to experienced artists. ~ Market Place Print Studio ~ Cockermouth ~ The studio offers printmaking workshops as well as classes in other mediums. Look at our Workshops for upcoming dates. We have a large printing press that can be used for printing etchings, monoprint, linocuts and woodblocks. We offer courses for beginners and advanced level as well as open access for experienced printmakers. The space is run by artists Jack Fawdry Tatham and Emily Fairlie Baker. ~ Printshare Lakes ~ Ulverston ~ Printshare Lakes was established in 2017 by a small group of Printmakers meeting regularly to share ideas, skills, materials and equipment. The group now has a permanent studio in the centre of Ulverston and can offer a fully resourced printmaking workshop and gallery with a rolling program of creative, affordable courses, events and exhibitions. Our varied range of classes are accessible to everyone with all levels of experience. The North West

~ Art lab Contemporary Print Studios (ACPS) ~ Preston ~ ACPS is a practice based research unit housed within the University of Central Lancashire where printmaking connects with other creative disciplines and discourses. The well equipped studios provides a creative space and professional expertise for artists to develop projects where printmaking is an essential element. The unit is led by two experienced artist-researchers, Magda Stawarska-Beavan and Tracy Hill who use printmaking as a significant element of their practice. ~ Emerson Mayes ~ Weeton ~ We are delighted offer an incredible opportunity to participate in a 3-day printmaking course with Emerson Mayes. Over three days you will learn the techniques and methods which Emerson uses to produce his award-winning wildlife work. The Course is suitable for both beginners and more advanced artists and will be a very ‘hands-on’ experience. ~ Iron Press ~ Lancaster ~ Established by master Printer Iain Sloan in 2014 and opened to the public in 2015,  Iron Press Printmaking studio is a resource for experienced printmakers and a place for interested beginners to learn an incredible range of printmaking skills. We offer both open access for experienced printmakers and workshops for beginners or those printmakers who want to learn new skills. ~ The People Powered Press ~ Shipley ~ I want a go! You can have a go on the People Powered Press through one of the PPP’s printing workshops. They also run community workshops for local groups — find out more here. Soon, the People Powered Press will have a small number of volunteer opportunities available – to work on the press for either a short time, or on a more regular basis. Scotland

~ Edinburgh Printmakers ~ Edinburgh ~ Edinburgh Printmakers is a creative centre for printmaking and the visual arts in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh. It has a large light-filled printmaking studio running regular courses and workshops, two galleries, a shop selling original prints and handmade products, venue hire space for meetings, events or learning activities, a café, a courtyard, and community garden. www.edinburghprintmakers.co.uk

~ Glasgow Print Studio ~ Glasgow ~ Our open access printmaker’s workshop is eclectic, inspirational and welcoming with an atmosphere that promotes experimentation and innovation as well as a particularly high standard of production. The workshop is run by an experienced staff of expert artist printmakers who can provide guidance and technical advice on all aspects of printmaking.
