Mary Gillett’s work derives from her responses to wild places such as Dartmoor, British Columbia, and the West Coast of Scotland.

Interweaving the alchemical process of etching with the layers and symbols inherent in the landscape feels to her a robust way of exploring a complex world of overwhelming emotions.

Her furrowed, corroded, scraped and burnished etching plates almost look as if they have been eroded by the elements themselves, echoing the narrative of the subjects that confront her.
