Laura Boswell
My work focuses on landscape in the UK and Japan, where I studied traditional Japanese woodblock printing. My interest lies in pattern and form within landscape and its light, weather and seasonality. I aim to evoke a feeling of place, rather than document specific locations. My current work explores meticulous cutting of the block to create a feel of fluid and spontaneous line, white space and a painterly approach to inking the block. This often results in editions where cut marks are identical, yet every print is subtly unique.
