Joanna Bourne

image of open spread of the Lancashire Life magazine

Joanna Bourne lives in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and many of her images are based on her local area featuring allotments, town moor, park and garden. More recent prints are inspired by  visits to the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic sea. Her images convey the impressions of a given moment in time, a scene glimpsed which has resonated with her. Specialising in woodcut, Joanna uses the wood grain to add texture to her images, printing several  layers of ink of varying transparency and restricted palette to create a subtlety and softness in the final work.
