Irene Burkhard’s practice is rooted in the material and conceptual language of etching. Drawn to the medium’s slow, physical nature, she values its resistance to speed and the permanence of every mark. Walking shapes her work; it is how she observes, listens, and gathers the emotional texture of place. These impressions first become intuitive drawings and later etchings that distil atmosphere into line, tone, and rhythm. While grounded in traditional intaglio, she also experiments with acetone transfer and mixed processes. Her prints investigate how memory and experience inscribe themselves into landscape, reaffirming printmaking as a tactile, contemporary art form.
