Traditionally made using local materials covered with layers of whitewash, the Irish old farmhouses and cottages seem to fit into the landscape so well. Some have been maintained and cherished over the years and continue to be someone’s home. Others, abandoned long ago, are so remote I wonder how people managed to eke out a living there at all.  These little mountain farms and cottages are places I’ve seen on my travels, belong to people I know or are from my memories of homes we visited when I was a child.
