My woodcuts explore the potential of colour in environments as a source of emotional response. The use of textured paper, and evidence of the tactile process of making the prints emphasises their qualities as objects, and foregrounds the direct relationship that exists between wood, paper and cut. Layered prints result from improvising with a set of wooden blocks inscribed with textures and forms, allowing for combinations of imagery and patterns taken from human-made and natural sources to build up visual environments. This way of making allows for improvisation, and serendipity, resulting in images that invite multiple readings.
