Sam Knowles
I graduated in Fine Art from Newcastle University in 2002. Since then I have exhibited in galleries and art fairs across the UK.
In much of my work, the hand carved marks of the lino are deliberately offset by the clean space of the surrounding paper, which is integral to the finished piece. Although devoid of printed elements, this space is not empty as it becomes loaded as a home for my characters to inhabit, be it defined or left to the viewer’s interpretation. The resulting imagery is minimal yet full of narrative.
I divide my time between printmaking and working as a gallery curator.
