Jane Mowat
I have worked almost exclusively with wood for the past 25 years, both in sculptural reliefs and carvings, and in print. My woodcuts are inspired by the surface knots, the grain, and the shape of the block from natural wood planks, and these chance organic forms inspire the composition of my images. I have explored certain images repeatedly, inspired by the environment, and our relationship with it, so birds, water, plants and mountains figure increasingly. Along with this, there may be travellers or figures resting or in conversation. They are the part of us who would like to co-exist peacefully with nature.
