Clare Phelan

Influenced by the post industrial landscapes of Northern England where she has lived all her life, Clare works with mass produced obsolete objects from our industrial past. Working with textile jacquards, music box discs and IBM punch cards, she adds layers of additional material to these carriers of narrative. The paper creases and the rusty damaged metal of the artefacts hold the imprint of their past and evoke memories of those who handled them. Through etching and collagraph printmaking processes, these redundant relics are give a new life in Clare’s prints which bear witness to the past.
