I’m most inspired whilst walking in the countryside and enjoy creating impressionistic linocuts from my scenic discoveries. Often, they are quite simple scenes of woodlands, water or flowers that are elevated by dappled light, weather, or seasonal colour. I cut in a loose, painterly fashion using a variety of gouges to explore mark-making. Often my prints have many layers, lots of texture and monoprinted elements which furthers the painterly feel. I aim to find a balance between detail, accuracy, and free expression to create an uplifting or restful depiction.
